TSL024 Academic Writing
The second subject that we learnt for this semester is Academic Writing. We learned this subject with Miss Farah. Learning Writing her is great. I couldn't imagine what will happen if she is not my lecturer for this subject. Miss Farah is a very dedicated lecturer, as she had a consultation with us until 1 a. m. and she will always guide is with everything we don't understand until we did it.
For this subject, there are a few new things we learnt, for example, Summarising, Synthesising and Paraphrasing. There were also a few assessments and assignments that we need to do for this subject.
Lectures and Notes
For this subject, we will have lectures on Monday and Thursday every week. For this subject, we learnt a lot of new things, for example, Opinion Based Essay, Process Analysis Essay and many more. We also learnt to do citation pad paraphrasing.
Personally, I had a problem with Paraphrasing and Synthesising, and then Miss Farah guided me and help me encounter that problem. She taught me how to link main ideas, relate points and many more in an essay.
Every class with Miss Farah is the best, as she will always make sure we really understand everything she taught in previous classes before continuing our lesson for that day.
Assignment and Assessments
There are a few assessments that we need to do for this subject this semester. The first thing we need to do is the Midterm Test. For this test, we were asked to answer two questions, which consists of two summaries and two synthesizing. I failed this test because I don't really understand how to write a proper synthesizing, as stated before. Thanks to Miss Farah's explanation, now I know how to write a proper synthesising.
The second assignment we need to do for this subject is the Opinion Based Essay, which contains two assignments, which are Assignment 1 and Assignment 2. For this assignment, we need to choose a theme and write an outline and an essay for Assignment 1 and Assignment 2 individually.
For this assignment, I chose the theme Literature and I write about Teaching Literature in Malaysian Primary Schools.
Conclusion
In the nutshell, there is a lot of new knowledge that I got by learning this subject. I learned how to synthesize, summarize and many more. For the final examination, I hope that I'll be ready for it and will acheived goo results, InshaAllah! To my writing lecturer, Miss Farah, thank you for everything, your valuable advices, tips and many more, our memories will be in my heart forever, and really hope to see you again next semester. Thank you so much Miss Farah :)
